American Friends of Shamir Medical Center proudly supports one of Israel’s largest and most vital government hospitals, Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh). Strategically located in central Israel, just minutes from Ben-Gurion International Airport, Shamir serves more than one million people from every walk of life. With one of the busiest emergency rooms in the country, Shamir stands on the front line of Israel’s medical and humanitarian response. In times of both crisis and calm, the hospital embodies the Jewish value of pikuach nefesh, the sacred duty to save life.
Our not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 organization was established in 1983 to raise money for one of the largest hospitals in Israel. Although little known in the United States, Shamir Medical Center is the fourth-largest government hospital in Israel, it provides over 1 million residents in Israel’s central region with state-of-the-art medical care and services.
